Ethiopia and Eritrea sever ties amid Tigray fighting
Ethiopia and Eritrea have cut diplomatic ties as fighting intensifies in Ethiopia's Tigray region. The break between the two neighbours, who had grown close after the 2018 peace deal, marks a sharp reversal and deepens concerns that the Tigray conflict is spilling across borders and destabilising the wider Horn of Africa.
Why now: The reported rupture between the two countries signals a major escalation of the Tigray conflict with regional consequences.
