Former NYPD sergeant admits impersonating ICE official
Original: Former NYPD sergeant pleads guilt to charge he impersonated ICE official https://gothamist.com/news/former-nypd-sergeant
A former New York Police Department sergeant has pleaded guilty to impersonating an official with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Gothamist. The case adds to scrutiny around ICE, whose agents have been highly active in immigration enforcement, and around police misconduct in New York. The guilty plea is a reversal after an earlier denial of the charge.
Why now: Immigration enforcement by ICE is a contentious topic, making an impersonation case involving a police officer newsworthy.
