Ukraine's border guard service has opened a memorial called 'Heavenly Watch' on Zmiinyi Island, also known as Snake Island, in the Black Sea. The site honours border guards who died defending the island after Russian forces attacked it on the first day of the full-scale invasion, and has become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance.
Why now: The memorial commemorating border guards who defended Snake Island has symbolic significance in the ongoing war with Russia.
