Pentagon Acknowledges Space Weapons Programme
Original: Pentagon Acknowledges Space Weapons
The Pentagon has acknowledged the existence of space weapons, according to reporting highlighted by arms control observers. The admission is significant for arms control advocates, who have long warned that deploying weapons in orbit could fuel a new arms race among major powers. Details on the scale and purpose of the systems remain limited, and debate is expected over how international space treaties should respond.
Why now: Any official confirmation of weapons in space raises concerns about a new arms race and the future of space arms control.
