Drones Strike Ethiopia's Capital After Break with Eritrea
Original: Drones Strike Ethiopia’s Capital as Country Severs Ties with Eritrea
Drones attacked Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, shortly after the country announced it was severing diplomatic ties with Eritrea. The strikes mark a sharp escalation between the two neighbours, whose relations had already been deteriorating following tensions rooted in the aftermath of Ethiopia's northern conflicts. The combination of a broken diplomatic relationship and attacks on the capital has raised alarm about a wider confrontation in the Horn of Africa.
Why now: A sudden rupture in Ethiopia-Eritrea relations paired with drone strikes on the capital signals a serious new security crisis in the Horn of Africa.
