Victor Wembanyama refuses sports betting promotion deal
Original: Wembanyama rejects sports betting promotion
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has turned down an opportunity to promote sports betting, drawing wide attention given the NBA's growing commercial ties with gambling companies. Fans and commentators are praising the French center for prioritizing athlete integrity and fan protection over sponsorship money, with many calling it a rare stance in professional sports.
Why now: Athletes rarely decline lucrative betting sponsorships, especially as gambling advertising becomes widespread in the NBA.
