Women's tennis governing body has reaffirmed its commitment to equal prize money at WTA 1000 tournaments, while also reducing the number of mandatory events for players ranked in the top 50. The move addresses long-standing demands from players for pay parity with the men's tour, while lightening scheduling burdens on leading athletes.
Why now: The WTA's combination of prize money equality and a lighter mandatory schedule is a significant policy update affecting top players.
