Cricket's crackdown on 'bunny-hop' catches sparks debate
Original: Cricket is cracking down on ‘bunny-hop’ catches. It’s a nonsense that penalises brilliance
Cricket's governing bodies are moving to penalise so-called 'bunny-hop' catches, where fielders jump and release the ball mid-air before regaining their footing to complete a dismissal. Critics, including commentators, argue the crackdown punishes exceptional athleticism rather than protecting the rules' intent, calling the interpretation of the law a nonsense that penalises fielding brilliance.
Why now: A rule interpretation change affecting spectacular boundary catches has divided players and fans.
