Eritrea cuts diplomatic ties with Ethiopia in tit-for-tat move
Original: Eritrea severs diplomatic ties with Ethiopia in tit-for-tat move https://www. aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/1/e ritrea-seve
Eritrea has severed diplomatic relations with Ethiopia in a retaliatory step amid a deepening dispute between the two neighbours. In response, Ethiopia announced it will close its embassy in Asmara and declared ten Eritrean diplomats persona non grata. The moves mark a sharp deterioration in relations between countries that fought a bitter border war before a 2018 peace deal.
Why now: The reciprocal diplomatic expulsions signal a rapid and unexpected collapse in relations between two formerly feuding neighbours.
