Syria's government has rejected reports that its officials held secret talks with Hezbollah in Turkiye. The denial follows a Reuters report citing six sources from Syria, the US and Lebanon who said such meetings had taken place. The episode has drawn attention because it touches on Syria's relations with the Lebanese armed group and its ties to Turkiye and Western governments, all sensitive matters for the new authorities in Damascus.
Why now: Conflicting reports between major news agencies and an official Syrian denial over sensitive regional diplomacy are drawing attention.
