Lionel Messi has been confirmed as the new owner of Eldense, a Spanish second-division football club. The takeover of the modest club based in Elda, Alicante, marks an unexpected move by the Argentine star into club ownership, and news of the confirmed deal is circulating widely among football fans and sports media.
Why now: Messi is one of the world's biggest sports stars, so his entry into club ownership at a small Spanish second-tier club is striking news.
