Formula 1 drivers, including George Russell, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, have voiced negative opinions about plans to turn the Monaco Grand Prix into a sprint weekend, with some warning it would mean 'two boring races'. While they oppose the sprint race at the tight street circuit, drivers welcome the addition of extra qualifying sessions that the format would bring. The debate concerns the 2026 F1 calendar.
Why now: Formula 1 has proposed making the Monaco GP a sprint weekend for 2026, prompting drivers to publicly criticise the idea.
