Pentagon to launch cadet corps with five universities

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the Pentagon will partner with five universities, including Louisiana State University and Liberty University, to establish a new corps of cadets intended to serve as a pipeline for recruiting young people into the military. The selection of Liberty, a conservative Evangelical Christian institution, is drawing attention and debate about the political character of the programme.

Why now: The pairing of public and conservative religious universities in a Pentagon recruiting pipeline is prompting discussion about the militarisation and politicisation of higher education.
