Estonia's foreign minister calls Russian actions war, not hybrid attacks
Original: It’s war, not hybrid attacks, says Estonian foreign minister
Estonia's foreign minister says his country is facing war rather than hybrid attacks, according to Politico. The statement signals a sharp escalation in how Baltic leaders describe Russian activity against Estonia and its neighbours, framing it as open hostilities rather than covert destabilisation. The comments are likely to fuel debate in Europe over how to characterise and respond to Russian pressure on NATO's eastern flank.
Why now: Escalating Russian aggression against Baltic and European states is prompting officials to sharpen their language about the nature of the threat.
