The Brazilian government has called for an investigation into alleged United States funding of far-right political causes. The request follows concerns about foreign money influencing Brazilian politics, a sensitive topic after years of scrutiny over outside involvement in the country's elections. The story is drawing wide attention across international news and political circles, with debate over what such funding, if confirmed, would mean for Brazil-US relations.
Why now: A formal request by one government to investigate another's political funding is an unusual diplomatic escalation
