Boston Dynamics reveals new humanoid robotic hand without a pinkie
Original: Boston Dynamics drops pinkie on new humanoid hand
Boston Dynamics has unveiled a redesigned humanoid robotic hand that features only four fingers, dropping the pinkie from its previous design. The company says the change improves durability and grasping reliability for industrial tasks. Robotics watchers are debating whether four-fingered hands are enough for human-like manipulation or a sign that robots need not copy human anatomy exactly.
Why now: Boston Dynamics is a high-profile robotics company, and the departure from five-fingered human anatomy in its humanoid hardware is a notable engineering choice.
