Report Says UN Expert Albanese Never Signed Statement on Russia Abuses
Original: Report: Albanese Never Signed a Joint UN Expert Statement on Russia’s Human Rights Abuses
UN Watch reports that Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, never signed a joint statement by UN experts condemning Russia's human rights abuses in Ukraine. The claim is fuelling criticism of Albanese, with accusers saying she applies human rights standards selectively, while her supporters have previously defended her statements as within her mandate.
Why now: UN Watch's new report is being used to argue the UN expert is selectively silent on Russia's abuses.
