FBI Targets Activists Behind $100M Pipeline Shutdown
Original: These Environmentalists Destroyed $100M… Then The FBI Came For Them
Environmental activists who shut down pipelines, causing an estimated $100 million in losses, say the FBI came after them in response. The story revisits the Valve Turners, who closed pipeline valves in 2016 to protest fossil fuel infrastructure, and examines the legal repercussions and surveillance they faced, reigniting debate over protest, climate activism and government response.
Why now: Renewed attention to climate protest and government crackdowns on activists has revived interest in this case.
