Brown University's Costs of War Project reports that US military spending produces an average of 5 jobs per $1 million invested. The same money spent elsewhere generates significantly more employment: nearly 13 jobs in education, 9 in healthcare, and 7 to 8 in infrastructure or clean energy. The findings are being shared in discussions over US defense budgets and public policy priorities.
Why now: Debates over US defense spending levels make the project's jobs comparison newly relevant.
