Hana Ohba, a member of the Japanese idol group LOVE, has been appointed a tourism ambassador for Saitama City. Commenting on the honour, she said it was a first for her and that she was happy to take on the role. Her appointment was announced alongside news of a Ryujin festival event, drawing amused reactions online.

Why now: The playful framing of a city's fortunes versus humanity's, paired with a pop idol's appointment, is entertaining social media users.
