FAO official says he was fired for criticising Israel over Gaza
Original: FAO official says he lost his job for criticising Israeli policies in Gaza
An official at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization says he lost his job after publicly criticising Israeli policies in Gaza. The claim, reported by Al Jazeera, raises questions about freedom of expression within UN agencies and the pressures on international staff who speak out on the Israel-Gaza conflict. The FAO has not been quoted responding to the allegation in the available reports.
Why now: Allegations that a UN agency dismissed an employee over Gaza-related criticism feed into ongoing controversy about silencing of pro-Palestinian voices.
