At least 15 expedition workers have died after an avalanche swept through a mountain area in Nepal. Rescuers recovered eight more bodies on Thursday, adding to the earlier death toll, as search efforts continue in difficult high-altitude conditions. The victims were local workers supporting climbing expeditions, a group often described as among the most exposed to Himalayan mountain hazards.
Why now: The rising death toll and ongoing rescue operation have drawn widespread attention to the dangers faced by mountain workers in Nepal.
