New York's governor has named a special prosecutor to oversee the investigation into an alleged rape at a Cornell University fraternity. The move signals the state's decision to take direct control of the probe into the incident on the Ithaca campus. Reports of the appointment are circulating widely, with observers watching for what an independent prosecutor may mean for charges and Cornell's response.
Why now: The appointment of a special prosecutor is a significant escalation in a high-profile campus rape investigation.
