The Technology Oversight Project (S.T.O.P.), a New York-based privacy advocacy group, reports that communities from small towns to cities as large as Los Angeles are canceling their contracts with Flock Safety and condemning mass surveillance. The group says the cancellations reflect growing public opposition to the company's network of automated license plate readers and the broader expansion of surveillance infrastructure across the United States.
Why now: Privacy advocates are highlighting a wave of local decisions against Flock's surveillance technology, drawing attention to debates over mass surveillance.
