Green roofs make solar panels more efficient, research finds

New research indicates that installing green roofs beneath or alongside solar panels can improve the panels' efficiency. Vegetation cools the roof surface, and since solar panels lose output as temperatures rise, the cooler microclimate helps them generate more electricity. The findings, highlighted by architecture and design media, are drawing attention as cities look for ways to combine climate adaptation with renewable energy on buildings.
Why now: Interest in combining green infrastructure with solar power is growing as cities pursue building decarbonisation.
