Missouri education board seeks budget $270 million below formula
Original: Missouri Board of Education requests budget $270 million less than funding formula requires
The Missouri Board of Education has submitted a state budget request that falls $270 million short of what the state's school funding formula calls for. The gap means Missouri schools would receive less state support than the formula is designed to provide, raising questions about how districts will cover the difference and whether lawmakers will restore the missing funds during the legislative budget process.
Why now: A large gap between the funding formula and the actual budget request directly affects school districts statewide and will shape legislative debate.
