International coalition disrupts drug traffickers using commercial flights
Original: Drug traffickers using commercial flights halted by international coalition
An international law enforcement coalition, coordinated through Eurojust, has halted drug trafficking networks that smuggled narcotics aboard commercial passenger flights. The operation targeted criminals who exploited routine air routes to move drugs across borders, using ordinary airline passengers and luggage systems as cover. Authorities say the coordinated action marks a significant blow to a method that had been difficult to detect through routine airport security.
Why now: A coordinated cross-border law enforcement operation against a novel trafficking method is significant news for EU security cooperation.
