Hungary and Ukraine close in on deal over ethnic Hungarian rights
Hungary and Ukraine are reportedly nearing an agreement over the rights of ethnic Hungarians living in western Ukraine, according to Euronews. The issue has long strained relations between the two countries, with Budapest pressing Kyiv over language and education rules affecting the Hungarian minority in the Transcarpathia region. A deal could mark a thaw in ties as Ukraine seeks Western support.
Why now: A potential resolution to a long-running bilateral dispute carries significance amid Ukraine's broader push for Western backing.
