ProPublica investigation finds lax regulation of microschools
Original: Amazing work by @ ProPublica illustrating the lack of regulations around microschools in some (many) states. # news # po
ProPublica has published an investigation showing that microschools, a fast-growing alternative to traditional schooling, operate with little or no regulatory oversight in many US states. The reporting focused on Arkansas, West Virginia and North Carolina, where private schooling programs have expanded rapidly under permissive rules. Commenters on education and politics forums are praising the reporting and voicing concern about accountability in publicly funded school choice programs.
Why now: Growing national debate over school choice and public funding for lightly regulated microschools is drawing attention to new investigative reporting.
