Pentagon creates Office of Religious Affairs reporting to Hegseth
Original: Pentagon launches Office of Religious Affairs, will report directly to Hegseth
The US Defense Department has established a new Office of Religious Affairs that will report directly to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The move places religious affairs at the top level of Pentagon leadership, and it is drawing attention from commentators weighing the implications for the separation of church and military policy.
Why now: The direct reporting line to Hegseth and church-state implications are prompting debate about religion's role in the military.
