Six House Democrats are reportedly introducing the Stop the Settlements Act, legislation aimed at halting construction of new Israeli settlements or expansion of existing ones in the occupied territories. The bill would use punitive financial sanctions and a strict ban on imports of settlement goods to enforce the prohibition. The measure is expected to reignite debate within the Democratic Party over US policy toward Israel and settlement funding.

Why now: New legislation challenging US policy on Israeli settlements is drawing attention amid ongoing debate over Israel-Palestine issues in Congress.
