Tom Kim leads Asian Games golf, closing in on military exemption
Original: Tom Kim takes Asian Games lead after Round 3, one round away from military exemption
Tom Kim fired the leading score in the third round of the Asian Games golf tournament, putting himself one round away from a gold medal that would earn him an exemption from South Korea's mandatory military service. The exemption, awarded to athletes who win gold at the games, is seen as a major prize for the young PGA Tour star.
Why now: A win would spare one of golf's rising stars from South Korean mandatory military service, making the final round high stakes.
