App maker touts instant one-click data export

A developer is promoting an app that lets users export all their data instantly via a single button in the settings menu, delivering everything as JSON or CSV, or as an encrypted copy protected by a user-chosen passphrase. The developer contrasts this with the usual data portability process, which typically involves filing a request and waiting weeks for a download, and notes that users can export without closing their account.

Why now: Frustration with slow, cumbersome data export processes is a common privacy concern, so a simple alternative resonates with people.

• Data portability usually means filing a request and waiting weeks for a zip file. In my app it’s a button: Settings, Export data, and you get everything as JSON or CSV. Or an encrypted copy, locked with a passphrase you choose. No account to close. # Privacy # DataPortability #… · baremindapp · 2
