Southampton Adds Two Student Ex Officio Board Members
Original: Southampton Appoints Two Student Ex Officio Board Members
The Southampton school district has appointed two students to serve as ex officio, non-voting members of its board of education. The move gives students a formal seat at the table in district governance, letting them share student perspectives on policy decisions. Appointing student board members is part of a broader trend of districts seeking direct student input on school leadership.
Why now: The district's decision to formally include student voices in board governance is a notable education policy step being discussed locally.
