The Pennyforge research project ran a census on 1 October 2026, gathering data solely from public sources: shop pages, payment service provider and EPI pages, and card association publications. The work was carried out in two passes, one via static HTML and one via a headless browser, followed by checks against incumbent providers. Per-shop results and the methodology are available on request, and the total data cost was zero.
