Widening the Aperture: Keeping Options Open in a Changing Climate
Original: Widening the Aperture: Keeping People’s Options Open in a Changing Climate
A new commentary argues that climate policy should focus on preserving people's options rather than forcing single-path adaptation. As rising temperatures, drought and sea-level change displace communities, the piece urges planners to widen their aperture: supporting mobility, livelihoods and infrastructure choices that let households decide for themselves whether to stay, adapt or move as conditions shift.
Why now: Debate over climate-driven migration and adaptation policy is intensifying as extreme weather accelerates displacement worldwide.
