Original: 3. oktober

October 3, the Day of German Unity, is a nationwide public holiday in Germany, and it is drawing attention again this year. Local coverage from the Ostthüringer Zeitung notes that despite the holiday, people in the cities triplet area around Gera, Jena and Saalfeld were making emergency shopping trips, since most stores are required to close on the day. Shoppers stocked up on everyday essentials ahead of the closures.
