Tony Romo and CBS Sports part ways after OWI arrest
Original: Tony Romo, CBS Sports part ways after July OWI arrest - The Athletic
Tony Romo and CBS Sports have ended their partnership, according to reporting by The Athletic, with the separation coming weeks after the former quarterback was arrested in July on an operating-while-intoxicated charge. Romo had served as the network's lead NFL game analyst since 2017, becoming one of the highest-paid broadcasters in sports television. The split leaves CBS facing a major hole in its NFL coverage booth heading into the season.
Why now: Romo was one of the most prominent and highly paid NFL analysts on television, so both the arrest and his abrupt exit from a lead network booth are major sports media news.
