Why Indian cricketers have unfamiliar names at Asian Games 2026
Original: S.Viswanadh, T.T.V.Namboori and more: Explaining why Indian players have unfamiliar names at Asian Games 2026
Indian cricket fans at the Asian Games 2026 have been puzzled by unfamiliar names like S.Viswanadh and T.T.V.Namboori on official squads and scorecards. The names stem from players being registered with initials and surname combinations rather than the full names used in the IPL and international cricket, leaving many supporters struggling to recognise who is who.
Why now: Official Asian Games listings use unusual initial-based registrations, confusing fans accustomed to players' familiar international names.
