Original: NYC Mayor Mamdani says US should join the ICC and enforce arrest warrant against Netanyahu
New York City Mayor Mamdani has called for the United States to join the International Criminal Court and to enforce the arrest warrant issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The statement puts the mayor at odds with US policy, as Washington is not an ICC member and has opposed the warrant. Reaction has been sharp, with supporters backing the call and critics denouncing it.
Why now: The mayor's provocative call on a sensitive US-Israel foreign policy issue is drawing strong reactions from both sides.
