Immigration NGO Rejects Unionization, Lays Off Staff Amid ICE Surge
Original: Immigration NGO Rejects Unionization, Lays Off Critical Staff Despite ICE Surge
A US immigration nonprofit is reported to have refused to recognize its workers' unionization effort and laid off critical staff even as enforcement activity by Immigration and Customs Enforcement is rising. The report frames the moves as at odds with the organization's immigrant-defense mission, a contrast likely to draw criticism from labor advocates and supporters of the group's work.
Why now: The apparent contradiction between a pro-immigrant organization's mission and its anti-union, layoff decisions invites scrutiny and debate.
