Umar Khalid Documentary Screening Held in Washington, DC
Original: Umar Khalid Documentary Screening: Washington, DC
A documentary screening about jailed Indian activist Umar Khalid was held in Washington, DC, organised by the group Hindus for Human Rights. Khalid, a former Jawaharlal Nehru University student, has been imprisoned in India since 2020 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in connection with the Delhi riots case. The screening is part of ongoing advocacy by diaspora and rights groups raising concerns about his prolonged detention without trial.
Why now: Ongoing concern over Umar Khalid's continued imprisonment in India keeps human rights advocacy events about him in the public eye.
