Severed robot hand compared to Thing from The Addams Family
Original: Severed robot hand looks like a futuristic Thing from ‘The Addams Family’
A newly demonstrated robotic hand that can move on its own once detached is drawing comparisons to Thing, the disembodied helper hand from 'The Addams Family'. The device's eerily lifelike crawling and gesturing has fuelled online discussion about how convincingly robots can now mimic living movement, mixing amusement with unease about lifelike machines.
Why now: A robot hand moving independently looks uncannily like the fictional Thing, striking a chord of fascination and creepiness
