Proposed Florida science standards draw fierce criticism
Original: Proposed new Florida science standards attract fierce criticism
Florida's proposed new science education standards are facing strong criticism. Opponents, including science education advocates, argue the draft standards weaken how evolution and climate change are taught, echoing past battles over science curriculum in the state. Supporters of rigorous science teaching are urging revisions before the standards are finalized, and the dispute has reignited broader debate over how science is handled in Florida's public schools.
Why now: The standards debate touches on contentious topics like evolution and climate change, drawing national attention to Florida's education policy.
