Environmental groups sue Trump administration over vehicle fuel economy rules

Original: Environmental groups sue Trump administration over eased vehicle fuel economy rules

Environmental groups have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration challenging its decision to ease vehicle fuel economy standards. The administration rolled back emissions and efficiency requirements for cars and light trucks, arguing the prior rules were too costly. The groups contend the weaker standards will increase pollution and gasoline consumption. The legal challenge adds to a series of court battles over the administration's environmental deregulation agenda.

Why now: The lawsuit is a significant legal challenge to a major rollback of US climate and vehicle emissions policy.
