Google's Project Suncatcher prototype satellite reaches orbit

Original: Our Project Suncatcher prototype satellite is in orbit

Google says its Project Suncatcher prototype satellite is now in orbit. The project is Google Research's effort to explore putting solar-powered computing hardware in space, testing how the equipment copes with the space environment. The announcement is drawing attention from technologists debating whether large-scale orbital data centers are realistic.

Why now: Google just confirmed its experimental space-based computing satellite successfully launched, a notable step in the race to move data centers off Earth.
