Two Iranians charged over foiled plot targeting Manchester Jews
Two Iranian nationals have been charged in the UK over an allegedly foiled plot targeting Jewish people in Manchester. The charges follow a counter-terrorism investigation, with prosecutors saying the suspects were connected to a scheme directed against the Jewish community. The case is likely to deepen tensions between Britain and Iran, which has previously been accused by Western officials of directing plots against dissidents and Jewish targets on European soil.
Why now: The charges are new in a high-profile counter-terrorism case with international implications for UK-Iran relations.
