Book bloggers on Mastodon are taking part in the monthly Six Degrees of Separation challenge, which links books from a chosen starting title. The October 2026 edition begins with a Rachel Cusk novella suggested by participant Kate W, and is themed around DNF books — titles readers did not finish. One blogger admitted the starting book defeated them despite its short length.

Why now: Readers enjoy sharing which books they abandoned, and the monthly chain meme gives the book community a recurring shared event.
