Reports indicate national Republicans are scaling back financial support for the North Carolina US Senate race, with a Republican PAC reducing funding behind candidate Michael Whatley. The development is being read as a sign the party may be conceding the Senate contest in North Carolina, a closely watched battleground state, and it has drawn discussion among US politics observers.
Why now: A major party appearing to abandon a key battleground Senate race signals shifting midterm prospects, drawing wide political attention.
