Iran Hangs Shahin Babayi for Drug Offences in Tabriz
Original: Article: Shahin Babayi Hanged for Drug Offences in Tabriz
Shahin Babayi was executed by hanging in Tabriz on drug-related charges, according to Iran Human Rights. The group reports the execution as part of a broader pattern of death sentences carried out in Iran for drug offences, which rights organisations argue fall short of international standards and are being used with growing frequency.
Why now: Rights groups and observers are drawing attention to Iran's continued use of the death penalty for drug-related crimes.
